ANGER

Anger is one of the most enlivening emotions we experience. At its best, it gives us strength to protect ourselves and those we care about, and it is a powerful force in any movement for change. But when we are out of alignment with our anger, it can lead us astray. For some of us, anger becomes like a faulty smoke alarm going off every time we try to make a piece of toast. For others, the whole house could be burning down, and our anger would never let us know. You may have learned to manage your anger by walking away or “white-knuckling it,” but this leaves you feeling exhausted, depleted, or out of control. Or, you may have been so conditioned not to feel or express anger that you have turned it inwards, and it doesn’t even feel like anger—it feels like depression, self-hatred, or a relentless inner critic. In our work together, we can find ways to help you not just “manage” anger but actually understand and work with it on a deeper level.

ANXIETY

For some of us, anxiety is so pervasive it’s like the water we swim in. We don’t even notice it until someone else points it out, or we get a moment of relief from it. For others, there are days and events that suddenly fill us with fear, but we have no idea why. Your anxiety may show up as intrusive thoughts or rumination, or it might live in your body. Often, anxiety is trying to keep us safe—either from things our mind has come to believe are dangerous, or from core emotions we are convinced we can’t hold or express. How do we stop this dread from keeping us from the full, rich life we want to live? We can work together to understand, befriend, and overcome anxiety. Anxiety wants you to stay small; I’d like to help you find a version of yourself that doesn’t have to.

UNDERACHIEVING

In a society that places so much emphasis on “productivity” and external success, it can be hard to untangle what a healthy and sustainable version of living up to our potential looks like. People who underachieve often have a great deal of potential, but for one reason or another have not been able to express it. You may have been told you were “bright” or talented—but not that it’s ok to make mistakes as you learn and grow. You may be hard on yourself—but it never feels like you give anything your all. You long to throw yourself into something fully, but something always gets in the way. This can lead to feelings of frustration, stagnation, resentment, or deep grief. Whether it’s work, creative pursuits, hobbies, relationships, or personal development, learning to grow into your potential can be a daunting, messy, thrilling, and incredibly rewarding experience. In our work together, we can help you develop the skills and mindsets it takes to jump in with both feet.

ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Daniela. Originally from the Midwest, I fell in love with the mountains the first time I saw them, and have been in Asheville over ten years now. I came to this work after a career as an academic translator and as a lifelong worker in the food service industry. I like to joke that, strangely enough, these two experiences were ideal preparation for becoming a therapist, since all three involve helping people discover and find the words for what they want, and want to say.

If any of the above resonates, I would love to hear from you! My goal in my work is to create a space of awareness and compassion that can allow my clients to step out of engrained patterns of thinking, feeling, believing, doing, and moving that no longer serve them. I tend to bring a blend of sincerity and levity to everything I do, and am convinced that the work of therapy is so important, we’d better not take it too seriously!
